of marble fossils

500 Million years ago, the whole of Erfoud area was submerged by the sea. When the water withdrew, it left billions of fossils, built up over time with successive sedimentation layers and that witness of the fauna and flora of the time.

 

Today the area is famous for its many " fossil quarries", because these fossils contain species of an incredible diversity, but also and mostly because they are embedded in marble.

All quarries are open to visitors. A fantastic dive that leads you back to the first signs of life on earth...
