Oasis Desert Camp Obira

Pros: This is the place to be! I saw a lot of camps in the internet and I think the most of them are 'plastic'. I found this at Google maps and I spent two nights there. I think if you go in the desert you have to stay there 2 nights as well. I've been there at january, so it is cold in the night. But I could sleep very well. So no problem. Mohammed is a nice guy and very helpful. The breakfast is included. You have to pay for the Transport and the Diner. But I think it's fair and the food was enough.

Pros: Great, quiet location out of the main camps. Non commercial, authentic experience. Very good treatment from the owner.

Pros: The camp is really beautiful, located right in the middle of the desert next to a huge dune. It has a very real and natural feeling, and the atmosphere is super calm. Mohamed very friendly and also cooks very good! You can also walk to the camp if you prefer; just ask beforehand and you can save a bit of money. Overall, a very nice experience :)

The authentic Berber experience in the middle of the desert.

Pros: Everything! It all felt so authentic and representative of the real Berber culture. The location is simply amazing, as the oasis is in the middle of the dunes (you can climb a big one, 200m tall just behind the camp). Mohamed is the perfect host, making us feeling home. The dinner was extremely good, prepared directly at the camp.

Pros: Mohamed and his crew took great care of us. They are truly one with the desert and told us a lot about its history and their lifestyle. We have been stargazing and ended up spending the night under the open sky. We woke up to witness a spectacular sunrise over the Algerien border.

Cons: Mohamed will make contact ahead of your stay. Make sure to discuss an arrangement for travel to the camp and dinner. Taking the camel ride back meant we had to leave early in the morning

Pros: Communication from Mohammed was very good. Everything he said was honored from pick up by 4X4 to the camels to the camp. We were met at Camp by Mustafa, Mohammed brother. Our 2 nights at camp were brilliant. From the amazing food,views to the outstanding hospitality from Mustafa. It was such a memorable and authentic experience and a very big thank you to Mustafa. Would highly recommend. Thank you very much

Pros: Amazing place, unlike other locations we've been in the oasis next to the large dune. Awesome experience due to being closer to nature and afar from other camps.

Cons: Long waiting times to the camp and back. I did not like bathroom but I did not expect it to be like those at hotels. I had to prepare for it well and I did so I was not disappointed.

Simple. Authentic. Best location.

Pros: Amazing and relaxing experience. Simple camp but in an amazing location. Far away from the large groups of touristy camps. Do go if you like an authentic stay in the desert with good food and a nice host.

10/10 location but the hosts are the ones that make this place truly special

Pros: We were so excited to find out we were staying in the OG desert camp in Merzouga and our experience went way beyond our expectations, so much we stayed an extra night and wish we could have done more. Our stay was EPIC with the stunning location, delicious fresh vegetarian food and above all the most lovely and generous hosts we could have asked for. Mohamed took us out on some incredible and one of a kind experiences. He taught us how to make the best tagine and absolutely looked after us from the moment we stepped off the bus to Merzouga to when we left. We were worried about the cold in the night but we were given a mountain of blankets and traditional gowns and were as cosy as you could imagine. It’s a time that we will remember forever and hope to return soon because there is truly no place like this. Thank you Mohamed and Ahmed - you guys are the best and we are forever grateful, Andrea & Esme

Best Location & Host

Pros: Very nice stay with Mohammed, who is an exceptional host. Very welcoming and caring for his guest. Also, he made us a Tajine that was probably one of the best we had so far 😋 Accommodation is basic, but exactly as described/pictured. You will have an authentic experience here without luxury!
